Which methods are used in hair transplantation?

There are two main methods used in hair transplantation. The first one, called FUT,is a procedure in which the hair is removed from the back area in the form of a strip and separated into individual hair follicles. The second one, called FUE, is a procedure in which hair follicles are removed one by one from the back area.

What is the FUE technique? What are the advantages of the technique?

In our center, we apply FUE, which is the most preferred hair transplantation method today. The procedure takes 5-6 hours and is performed under local anesthesia. In this method, since the follicles are removed one by one with one millimeter or smaller tips, there is no visible scar in the back area. Therefore, the hair can be used at the desired length after hair transplantation. Even people with a very active lifestyle (such as athletes) can quickly return to their daily life after FUE. Since there is no surgical incision in the FUE method, recovery is fast; compared to the FUT method, the risk of edema and swelling is negligible. By applying PRP during hair transplantation and Hair Mesotherapy afterwards, we ensure that the transplanted hair grows even healthier.

What are the Stages of Hair Transplantation?

• Preliminary Interview: Determination of Needs Your expectations, the transplantation method suitable for you, the process before and after hair transplantation are discussed in detail.
• Hair Transplant Planning The most important part of the hair transplant process is planning. During the planning phase, many issues such as how many grafts will be transplanted, where they will be transplanted, how many sessions the procedure will take, which blood tests will be requested, whether another doctor’s opinion will be needed are clarified.
• Visual Planning After the general planning stage, the visual planning process begins. Here, the patient is photographed from many fronts for the photo archive. After the graft distribution planning is drawn on the scalp with a pencil, it should also be photographed again. A good planning prepares the ground for a relaxing operation for both the patient and the physician.
• Operation Stage 1 This stage takes approximately 1 hour. This procedure starts with shaving the hair in the nape area. The reason is that the hair needs to be shortened by 0.3 mm in order for the hair follicles to be taken one by one from the donor area with the hair transplantation robot or micro motor. At this stage, the areas where the hair follicles will be harvested are also determined as chest, back, leg or nape. The area where the hair follicles will be removed is numbed with local anesthetic drugs. During this procedure, which is performed through a special needle, the patient is not made to feel pain and it takes an average of 3 to 5 minutes to numb the relevant areas. The patient will not feel any pain during the operation and will not have to use any painkillers after the operation.
• Operation Stage 2 In the second stage, hair follicles to be used from the donor area are obtained and this stage takes approximately 3 hours. The hair follicles are taken one by one with the hair transplantation robot, micro motor. A 0.6-0.8 punch should be used at the end of the micro motor or hair transplant robot during the hair follicle harvesting phase. After the harvesting phase is completed, the hair follicles are placed in a special solution in groups of 100 so that you can count the hair follicles comfortably. Before the 3rd stage, there is usually a break for food and necessities.
• Operation Stage 3 This stage, which is the part where the hair follicles are transplanted, constitutes the last part of the operation and takes an average of 3 hours. The transplant that performs the operation creates the front hairline at this stage. The distribution of the hair follicles to be transplanted is evaluated with the patient for the last time. The area to be transplanted from the area where the front hairline is located is completely numbed with local anesthetic drugs. After calculating the diameter of the hair follicles and the depth of the hair follicles, the slots (channels) where the hair follicles will be placed are opened with a lateral slit specially prepared for hair follicles. The canal opening process is the most important part of hair transplantation.

What should be considered before and after hair transplantation?

What to Do Before Hair Transplant Operation

After the planning and preparation process is completed, the day of the operation is determined. In order for this procedure, which consists of different sessions and lasts quite long, to go smoothly, the person must make the necessary preparations fully.

Here are the things to do before the hair transplant operation:

• Do not drink alcohol or smoke for three days at the latest and one week at the earliest before the hair transplant operation.
• Stop using aspirin and derivative drugs one week before the hair transplant operation.
• One week before the hair transplant operation, stop using lotions and medications that will affect the hair and scalp that you have used for hair loss.
• Since your hair will not be washed for the first three days after the hair transplant operation, take a shower while coming to the operation.
• Rest by sleeping for an average of 8 hours before the hair transplant operation.
• When coming to the hair transplant operation, prefer clothes with a front zipper and buttons that you can put on and take off comfortably (tracksuit style).
• Do not have a haircut before the hair transplant operation, unless requested by the specialists.
• If you have any surgery, chronic illness or medications you have used before the hair transplant operation, be sure to share them with your doctor.
• Have breakfast before the hair transplant operation. If the hair transplant operation is at noon or evening, eat something light.
• Observe the hair transplant operation appointment time.

The Process After Hair Transplant Operation

After the operation is completed, your doctor will give you some recommendations. He/she will give you information such as the protection and care of the area where the hair transplantation was performed and the roots were taken, and the lying position. In addition to these recommendations, you must fully comply with the use of the medications given to you.

What is the hair growth process after hair transplantation?

On the 10th day after transplantation, the scabs on the skin fall off; between the 15th and 20th day, the transplanted hair begins to fall out. The transplanted hair starts to grow from the 3rd month. Thereafter, there is an increase of 10 percent every month. Approximately 60 percent of the transplant result appears in the 6th month and 90 percent in the 9th month. At the end of 1 year, hair growth is completed.
