Microorganisms are commonly found together with humans, animals and plants and in the environment where these living things are found. Microbiology is the branch of science that talks about the properties of microorganisms that can be found intensively everywhere, their relations with each other and living things, examines them in the laboratory environment and shows how to isolate them by various methods. Due to the ubiquity of microorganisms in nature and their ability to cause disease, the science of Microbiology takes various names according to the department it examines. These are; Clinical, Food, Veterinary, Industrial Microbiology.
Clinical Microbiology in Microbiology deals with microorganisms that cause disease and have been identified. These microorganisms can be those commonly found in common diseases, zoonoses transmitted from animals, those transmitted from food and microorganisms that are commonly found in nature and show opportunistic pathogenic properties.
When examining disease agents in Clinical Microbiology, bacteria, viruses and fungi can be found together and each of them should be considered and examined separately. Clinical Microbiology primarily examines bacteria. In this examination, information is given under main headings such as general characteristics of bacteria, laboratory diagnostic methods and results, diseases caused by bacteria, epidemiology, prevention, treatment and media used for identification.
